The Farhud reminds us of the need for global education

June 1st and 2nd 2022, marks 81 years since the Farhud, a pogrom against the Iraqi-Jewish community. In 1941, Iraq's prime minister, Rashid al-Gaylani, seized power in a coup and aligned his government with Nazi Germany during World War II. 

What was known as the Golden Square coup, was motivated by anti-British sentiments and Nazi involvement saw anti-Semitic propaganda disseminated throughout the country. The monument, Prayer, was erected in memory of the Iraqi-Jews who were killed during the Farhud.
