Iraqi President Barham Salih on Monday called on Iraqi citizens and politicians to show solidarity to face the dangerous situation posed by the COVID-19 outbreak.
In his televised address to the Iraqi people, Salih called on the citizens and political organizations to "show the utmost degree of cooperation and coordination with the relevant official institutions, to launch constructive social initiatives to confront the current crisis to get out of it with minimal losses."
He urged the citizens to join together to provide food and health supplies for the needy families, those with limited incomes, as well as those in the displacement camps.
Salih also called on the political parties to show solidarity among themselves "to get the country out from the political turmoil."
Salih address came as the Iraqi Health Ministry confirmed earlier in the day three more deaths from COVID-19 and 33 new cases, bringing the total number of the infected to 266.
Out of the total cases confirmed in the country, 23 patients have died and 62 have recovered, according to the ministry.
The Iraqi authorities took several measures to contain the outbreak of coronavirus, including imposing a nationwide curfew until March 28.
As reported by Xinhua, to help Iraq cope with the spread of the novel coronavirus, a Chinese team of seven experts arrived in Baghdad on March 7.
They have been working with their Iraqi counterparts in the fight against the viral respiratory disease, which has been under control in China through a nationwide campaign since late January.
