This young woman is a graduate at one of the AMAR International Charitable Foundation's INVEST sewing courses and is now on her way to setting up her own sewing business in Shariya, Iraq.
As a member of Iraq's Yazidi community, she described: "What was great was that my teacher didn’t just teach me sewing, she taught me business skills and helped me develop confidence as a businesswoman."
As part of the "Inclusive Vocational and Entrepreneurship Skills Training" - AMAR's INVEST centre's provide skills based training, to provide long-term and sustainable employment opportunities.
These centres operate in Baghdad, Najaf, Erbil, and Dohuk, creating new opportunities for both internally displaced people (IDPs) and host communities, while stimulating entrepreneurship on a local level.
Each Centre provides access to services such as legal counsel, but core programs are job skills, training workshops in high-demand skills such as sewing, hairdressing, literacy, numeracy, English and Information Technology.
Through the INVEST Centre's, AMAR has given vital skills based training to more than 7,000 men and women. As many students are also parents with young children, AMAR also provides childcare - giving a safe environment for children to learn.
The AMAR Foundation is a UK based charity, who for 25 years have been working in Iraq. If you would like to support AMAR's efforts with the Iraqi people, please contribute an affordable donation to their work.
