RNLI Kessock Open and Recruitment Day

Kessock RNLI station is rolling open its doors - everyone is welcome! Come and see behind the scenes at the Lifeboat station, meet the crew, find out if you could volunteer for the RNLI and join us on board our amazing Atlantic 85 lifeboat this Saturday, 19 August.

The Lifeboat station open day is the main fundraising day for the volunteer crew of RNLI Kessock. From 10 am to 4pm the volunteer crew will be opening the doors of the lifeboat station and showing members of the public where the money they donate to the RNLI goes to.

Throughout the day (operational requirements permitting) there will be a series of demonstrations from RNLI Kessock and Invergordon lifeboats as well as UK Coastguard Helicopter 951 based at Dalcross.

Volunteers are essential to the RNLI, they are the core of the charity.

At Kessock we are actively seeking new volunteers to join us in a variety of roles; lifeboat crew, shore crew and fundraisers. For anyone who has ever thought about volunteering for the RNLI or wants to find out more about then we’ll be delighted to speak to them.

Members of the public can look aboard the lifeboat while it is on the shore. But for those who want to go afloat there will be boat trips available in the firth for members of the public with all money raised being donated to the RNLI. Boat trips are being provided by North 58 Adventures.

If you want a bounce around but don't like the idea of going to sea then there will be bouncy castles and giant slides. Plus face painting for children (and accompanied adults). When it comes to lunchtime then V8 Café from Inverness are providing a BBQ. The more you eat, the more you help save lives at sea.

For anyone who wants some sea safety and lifejacket advice then the RNLI’s sea safety caravan with local RNLI volunteers will be here to give members of the public as much advice as they want. They’ll be able to answer any questions about how to ensure you and your family can stay safe on the water.

They will have all your favourite RNLI souvenirs, some great raffle prizes and Christmas cards, piles of home baking and a warm mug of tea if you just want to sit down. Dan Holland Helmsman at RNLI Kessock said:

‘Not only is this is going to be a great fun day for the whole family with something for people of every age, this is a vital day for us at Kessock. We The RNLI receives no Government funding we rely on days like this with the public donating their money to the RNLI to keep our lifeboats afloat’
