No end to education, speaking the truth in times of war

As people around the world are watching the situations in Iraq and Afghanistan, here are two books that people will find beneficial and are now available from all good bookshops. Both books will also make thoughtful Christmas gifts for anyone serious about foreign policy.

Back in August, Pope Francis met with Nobel Peace Prize winner Nadia Murad, a Yazidi human rights advocate who has been speaking out on behalf of women in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Pope has also said, he was inspired to travel to Iraq partly by Murad’s memoir, The Last Girl

Dr Waheed Arian arrived in Manchester aged 15, after growing up in the Soviet-Afghan conflict. Despite having only four years of schooling, Dr. Waheed went on to graduate from Cambridge University and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Waheed's book, In the Wars, was published in 2021 with testimonials from Stephen Fry and Khaled Hosseini.

Dr Waheed Arian and Nadia Murad are true champions of human rights, whose words should be studied with care, as both authors provide a unique insight into both countries. These books will also give the reader a fresh perspective on domestic and international relations.
