Aiming high for disabled sports in Iraq

Iraq has one of the highest number of disabled citizens in the world, as a direct consequence of war and terrorism. This has resulted in new approaches being applied to promote inclusion.

People are still being impacted by landmines and other unexploded ordnances, with some UXO’s dating back to the Iraq-Iran war of the 1980’s. This sadly, rarely ever makes the international news.

But on October 24th, China’s Xinhua news agency got to witness players taking part in Iraq’s 2024 Amputee Football Championship, which was held in Baghdad. Together, we are peace!
