Both The Guardian and BBC have reported over 180 UK public libraries have closed because of funding cuts, stating that deprived areas ‘were four times more likely’ to lose out.
Such statements reinforce the necessity of campaigns such as ’Books Forever’ by organizations like Wood Street Mission. In 2023, Wood Street distributed over 20,000 books to children across Manchester.
Back in June, Wood Street Mission reported that 6,000 new books, plus a variety of good conditioned second-hand books had been donated to children across Manchester.
They’ve already held six Book Roadshows at different schools and children’s centre’s, distributing over 8,600 new books to more than 1,800 children. Now the new school year has started, let’s inspire kids to keep on reading!
