Shine a Halloween light for AMAR’s work in Iraq

In the run up to Halloween, we’ve designed these holiday profile pictures, which people are welcome to download and share, to help highlight the work of the AMAR Foundation in Iraq.

Halloween is an annual holiday, celebrated each year on October 31st and Halloween has its roots with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain.

The Celts celebrated their new year on November 1st and this day marked the end of summer, the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter.

The practice of decorating “jack-o’-lanterns”—the name comes from an Irish folktale—originated in Ireland. Irish immigrants brought the tradition to America, the home of the pumpkin.

People make Jack-o-lanterns by carving faces into pumpkins and placing them into windows or near doors, to frighten away evil spirits and to guide good spirits back to their families.
