UK jihadist’s video reveals missile cache

ISLAMISTS fighting in Syria have obtained a large stockpile of surface-to-air missiles capable of downing civilian airliners, heightening fears that arming rebel fighters could boost terrorist groups that target the West.

A video posted on the internet and narrated by a British jihadist with a distinctive northern English accent shows how Islamist fighters have obtained at least 30 shoulder-fired heat-seeking missiles.

The size of the stash of the Soviet-era SA-16 missiles — the most advanced anti-aircraft weapon yet seen in jihadist hands — has alarmed British security officials.

The three-minute video was posted on YouTube by an Islamist group called Katiba al-Kawthar and shows jihadists fighting troops loyal to President Bashar al-Assad.

The commentary is provided by a man named as Abu Musab, who speaks with a northern English accent. He is described as a “commander” of the militants.
