Government compensates terror victims

The Iraqi government said Thursday (December 13th) that in 2012 it has given out 178 billion Iraqi dinars ($153 million) in compensation to citizens affected by terrorist crimes that led to deaths, disabilities and material losses.

Officials provided 56 Iraqi families -- whose lives and livelihoods were affected by terrorist bombings -- with compensation, Salam al-Quraishi, the government's economic advisor, told Al-Shorfa.

Total compensation levels are set to rise to 200 billion Iraqi dinars ($172 million) in the next two months after the fifth batch of compensation is distributed, he said.

This money will go out to 5,000 citizens in cities around Iraq.
