Thanks to the generosity of local residents, on Saturday 30th November Christmas on Burton Road, in Manchester, England, raised over £1200 to aid the excellent work of the Wood Street Mission. This incredible amount was on top of donations of gifts and chocolates!
Since 1869, Wood Street Mission have been supporting families across Manchester and Salford who are experiencing disadvantages but through their many projects, WSM work to enable people and together they overcome these obstacles.
It was an absolute honor to have been chosen by the residents of West Didsbury, to switch on Burton Road’s Christmas lights, on behalf of the Wood Street Mission children’s charity.
Every year, WSM need people’s help to give local children from struggling families a happy and memorable Christmas. Through donations for kids aged 0 - 14 years of age, parents across Manchester and Salford visit Wood Street Mission to choose gifts for their children.
Through people’s kindness, at Christmas on Burton Road, we received a large number of toys, gifts, packs of chocolate coins and selection boxes. But our story doesn’t end here!
Just speaking with people, reminded me of what Charles Dickens wrote in A Christmas Carol: “it is good to be children sometimes, and never better than at Christmas, when its mighty Founder was a child Himself.”
