We’re delighted that UNESCO has recognised the 200th anniversary of the formation of the Royal National Lifeboat Institute on the 4th March.
This recognition means that the RNLI’s bicentenary will be included in a worldwide list of anniversaries that UNESCO will be associated with in 2024-2025.
The first ever street collection for the RNLI was held in Manchester back in 1891 and in 2023 alone, the RNLI City of Manchester Branch raised an amazing £36, 565, 20p! The picture above was taken at an RNLI street collection in Manchester, England.
The RNLI has been saving lives at sea since it was founded on 4 March 1824. Today, the charity operates 238 lifeboat stations around the UK and Ireland, including four on the River Thames, and has seasonal lifeguards on over 240 beaches around the UK.
