On Thursday, Pope Francis met with Nobel Peace Prize winner Nadia Murad, a Yazidi human rights advocate who has been speaking out on behalf of women in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Pope has also said, he was inspired to travel to Iraq partly by Murad’s memoir, The Last Girl.
Dr Waheed Arian arrived in Manchester aged 15, after growing up in the Soviet-Afghan conflict. Despite having only four years of schooling, Dr. Waheed went on to graduate from Cambridge University and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Waheed's book, In the Wars, was published in 2021 with testimonials from Stephen Fry and Khaled Hosseini.
