History runs throughout all of our lives and Manchester Histories aims to both celebrate the familiar and reveal the new and hidden histories from across Greater Manchester.

MHF and other projects throughout the year provide the opportunity for everyone to learn, explore, discover, and interpret histories through music, film, debate, talks by local and national historians, performance, walking tours and lots more.

Community groups, museums, galleries, academics, archives, local and family history societies, cultural organisations and commercial bodies across Greater Manchester help to create the festival. We come together to deliver the activities and events, sharing knowledge, experience and skills.

The festival takes place over 10 days with events held at a wide range of venues across Greater Manchester.

The Celebration Day is a one day event on the last Saturday of the festival that is traditionally held in Manchester Town Hall and includes exhibitions, talks, film screenings, games and lots more.

MHF is for people of all ages and historical experience from schoolchildren and college students to family history enthusiasts and museum curators.Everyone can get involved.

The Community Histories Awards also recognises successful partnerships exploring Greater Manchester histories between schools/community groups and an archive/gallery/library/museum/university.
