Catholic charity Caritas sharply critical of European governments' response to refugee crisis

The EU and its leaders are slammed in a new report from Catholic relief body Caritas Europa in its newly published response to the refuge crisis in Europe. 

The report says that policy responses by both the European Union (EU) and European government leaders belie core European values and contradict fundamental Christian teaching, as well as the foundation behind the EU project. Caritas says that its report is based on the experiences of Caritas organisations across Europe working to secure protection and human rights of migrants and refugees. 

The stories and testimonies of those who make it to Europe show the urgency of the situation, say the report authors.
