Book lovers of the world unite and join us on a literary journey to support children and young people in Greater Manchester. By taking part in a #WoodStreetJourney, you can support Wood Street Mission’s ‘Books Forever Appeal’ and help raise literacy levels here in the UK.
The ‘Books Forever Appeal’ helps to transform the lives of children across Greater Manchester and the Wood Street Mission wants to ensure that children can access books, even when their families are struggling financially.
Wood Street Mission organizes book roadshows in local schools, where they distribute new and good condition pre-loved books to children aged up to 16 years. Over 8,000 books have been donated so far and in 2022, WSM distributed over 20,000 books to children across Greater Manchester.
According to the National Literacy Trust, a known 7.1 million British people have ‘very poor literacy skills’ and this is why we want you to pick up a book and join our Wood Street Journey.
This Summer, we want to hear about what you’re reading and what you love about reading. We also want to hear about what books you read as a child or young adult, and if you have any favorite authors or spaces where you like to read.
A #WoodStreetJourney is an open conversation about reading for pleasure and we want you to join in. You can also follow @WoodSt_Mission over on Twitter and learn more about their work at woodstreetmission.org.uk.
