Join us in Manchester for a Summer of Iraq solidarity

Each year I take part on the Manchester 10K and the Run Media City 5K, to assist the ongoing efforts of the AMAR International Charitable Foundation inside of Iraq. Manchester is also home to around 20,000 Iraqi’s.

Among the projects I support are AMAR’s school for orphaned kids in Basra, AMAR’s mental health services for Yazidi survivors of the 2014 ISIS genocide, along with health clinics which provide up-to-date medical care for disadvantaged and displaced people.

While Iraq rarely makes the news these days, this vital and ongoing work continues without much public attention and I would absolutely love it, if you would consider joining me on either the Manchester 10K or the Run Media City 5K.

Back in 1991, Saddam Hussain’s persecution of the Marsh Arabs in southern Iraq saw hundreds of thousands flee their homes. As Iraq’s historic marshes were drained and villages attacked, families had no choice but to move.

After a visit to the region, Baroness Emma Nicholson refused to ignore the situation and launched an appeal, ‘Assisting Marsh Arabs and Refugees’, to send much needed relief to those who had lost everything.

Today, the AMAR Foundation’s work has evolved and now reaches families across the region. AMAR’s teams are working right the way across Iraq and Lebanon, ensuring that vulnerable families have access to healthcare, educational services and emergency aid.

They keep the name ‘AMAR’, which translates as ‘the builder’ in some Arabic dialects, to remind people of their central mission - that AMAR are rebuilding lives.

As we prepare for both of these events in the Summer, I would really appreciate it, if you would consider making a donation to assist AMAR’s work in Iraq. I am positive, that we can all make a difference in the lives of other people.
