Welfare, healthcare and education. Support AMAR on the Manchester 10K

On Sunday 20th May, supporters of the British based AMAR Foundation, are taking to the streets of Manchester and are joining the city’s 10K run, in aid of AMAR’s efforts across Iraq.

Founded 25 years ago by Baroness Emma Nicholson, the AMAR Foundation has grown into a dynamic organisation, whose work has seen the organisation play a leading role in supporting the Iraqi people.

Among those taking part in the Manchester 10K, is Hussein Al-alak a resident of Manchester, who has decided to run for the AMAR Foundation, in response to the services AMAR is providing.

These include Escaping Darkness - a specialist mental health service that was established by AMAR, to support rescued Yazidi women overcome the trauma of kidnap, sexual abuse and modern day slavery.

Along with Escaping Darkness, AMAR provides services across Iraq, which have a focus on “rebuilding lives” and includes the ongoing Mosul Appeal, where funds are being collected, to assist those still displaced from the conflict against ISIL.

According to the AMAR Foundation, the charity also works in the fields of education and general health-care, along with providing skills based training through INVEST centres, which provide long-term and sustainable employment solutions.

In 2017, Claire Carrie a student nurse for the National Health Service, ran the Manchester 10K for AMAR and explained her decision was based on AMAR’s work in mental health. Claire felt AMAR’s Escaping Darkness, reflected her motivations; “for wanting to study nursing and work for the (UK’s) health service.”

Hussein Al-alak has described his pleasure of being part of “Team AMAR” in the 2018 Manchester 10K and is encouraging others to get involved with fund-raising. “People can show their solidarity with the men, women and children of Iraq, to help rebuild lives and build a secure future.”

The AMAR Foundation is among a number of charities running the Manchester 10K, with participants supporting a variety of good causes. Readers can show their support to Hussein on the Manchester 10k, by sponsoring his run for AMAR, through the donate button on the Foundation's website: www.amarfoundation.org
