Iraq rejects US presence

Iraqi government firmly rejected the extension of US troop presence in Iraq beyond the year 2011.Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki informed US Defense Secretary Robert Gates that the government refuses any US or foreign military presence in Iraq, Cabinet spokesman Ali Al Dabbagh said in a statement to Alsumaria.

Foreign military presence in Iraq does not suit Iraqis and is the reason for some internal and regional rows, he added.Dabbagh on the other hand announced that the Iraqi government was informed earlier about the visit of US Defense Secretary in response to statements protesting the surprise visits of US officials.
